It is difficult to establish the true incidence of CA secondary to other urological procedures since groups at most centers have reported only isolated cases. Postoperative CA is rare but described in some reports of urological surgery, including retroperitoneal lymph node dissection for testicular cancer, 14 and radical12, 15, 16, 17 and donor2, 9, 11, 13 nephrectomy. CA developed more commonly after LRN (6.7% or 18 of 270 cases) and LDN (6.2% or 9 of 146) than after LSN (1.1% or 1 of 90), LNU (3.9% or 3 of 77) or LPN (2.6% or 1 of 39) but the CA Discussion The overall CA incidence was 5.1% (32 of 622 cases), including 4 severe refractory cases (0.6%). Laparoscopic nephrectomy was done on the left side in 343 patients and on the right side in 279. There were 364 male and 258 female patients. Mean patient age at laparoscopic nephrectomy was 49.0 years (range 7 to 89). For pure laparoscopic nephrectomy pneumoperitoneum was achieved using a Veress needle and 3 Results Table 1 lists patient preoperative demographic data.Īll surgery except LDN was done using pure laparoscopy and each LDN was done as a hand assisted procedure. Two surgeons performed a total of 622 transperitoneal laparoscopic nephrectomies at the Kyungpook National University Hospital department of urology between January 2002 and December 2008, including 270 LRNs, 146 LDNs, 90 LSNs, 77 LNUs and 39 LPNs.
